Assembly, Making 5, and Apples!

Last Friday we had a chance to go to an assembly to watch the dance troupe Ragamala.  The dancers performed traditional dances from India.

This past Friday we also practiced making 5 with two different games.  Students used cubes and spilled counters from a cup to make different combinations of the number 5.

Yesterday we began a two week unit on apples.  We started our unit by tasting three different types of apples.

Red -- Red Delicious
Yellow -- Golden Delicious
Green -- Granny Smith

Then students picked their favorite and we made a graph to see which apple our class liked best.  The winner was the green Granny Smith apple!

After our taste test each table received a plate of apple parts to examine.  Students recorded their observations about the apple's skin, core, seeds, bottom, and stem in their apple books.
