Communities & the 100th Day of School

For the past two weeks we have been learning all about communities.  We learned that a community is a place where people work, play, and live together.  Students had a chance to work together with their table groups to create their own communities.  They were very creative and did a great job!

Once all of our communities were completed students presented what they had made to their classmates.

Today we are celebrating our 100th day of school!  It is a very big and exciting accomplishment!  This morning we did many different activities connected to the number 100 and everything we've learned in our first 100 days of school.

We had a chance to listen to first graders from Mrs. Wessman's class count to 100 in Spanish.

We read the book, Miss Bindergarten Celebrates the 100th Day of Kindergarten.  And then we looked at all of the 100th day collections that people brought in.

What We've Been Up To...

After spending the month of January learning about addition this week we began learning about subtraction.  Students used fun shaped erasers to tell each other subtraction stories this week.

In reading groups recently students had a chance to practice and then perform a short reader's theatre play to the class.  All students did an excellent job!

During February at Brimhall we will be celebrating I Love to Read Month with many fun events.  This week each day we had a surprise all school D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read) time.

We ended our week this past week by spending time with our 6th grade buddies.  Students worked with their buddy to create a small book.

Some fun at choice time from this past week...
