End of the Year

Yesterday we had a small celebration to honor all that we've learned in kindergarten this year.  Students each recieved a diploma and had a chance to be affirmed by the peers.  What a great year we had together!

Today students said goodbye to each other with a big group hug and a cheer.  Have a great summer everyone!

Big Bubbles...Rock, Paper, Scissors, & Symmetry

Yesterday afternoon we had a lot of fun with our 6th grade buddies!  A 6th grade parent brought the supplies for us to make HUGE bubbles!

First students listened to directions before rotating through three different rotations...

Our class started by playing on the playground with our buddies.  Our next rotation was bubble making.

Our last rotation of the afternoon was hula hoops and hopscotch on the blacktop.

Our class received the book The Legend of Rock, Paper, & Scissors as a gift from the book fair.  Yesterday we had a chance to read it together.

Students then had a chance to play rock, paper, scissors with a partner.

This week in math we've been learning about symmetry.  This afternoon students created symmetrical pattern block designs.  They then used rulers to show the lines of symmetry.

Students had a chance to do a gallery walk to observe what their classmates had created.

Field Day...Field Trip...& Mo Willems!

It was a very busy week this past week in Mrs. Mohamed's class!  We started off the week with field day on Tuesday.  It was a hot day so we were able to do a few water games and moved the tug of war inside.

Then on Thursday we went on a field trip to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.

During our time at the museum students toured with a small group led by a museum provided docent.  Students had a chance to see many pieces of art that were connected to weather and seasons.

Last week we also did an author's study of one of my favorite author's Mo Willems!  On Wednesday we read several Pigeon books and then did a little writing project.  You can see a few samples below.

Then on Friday students had a chance to read Elephant & Piggie books with a partner before creating their own Elephant & Piggie comic strip!
