Our Week this Week

This week we began our literacy curriculum.  The theme for the week is Faces and Places at School.  On Monday students we read our big book, Is This My Classroom?  Then students had a chance to partner read the story.

After reading each student drew the connections they could make with the story on a white board.

Then students shared their connections with their classmates.

This week we've also been able to visit several of the people who help us at school.  On Tuesday we visited our school nurse, Mrs. Matthews.  On Wednesday we had a chance to visit Mr. Weber, our building engineer.  We started by seeing what sorts of tools he had in his office.

Then we got to go into the basement of the school to see the boiler and the underground tunnels.  Students thought this was pretty exciting!

In math we've been learning about the words greater than, less than, and equal.  This week we got to play a fun card game that helped us practice these concepts.

In health we've been learning all about safety.  On Tuesday students worked with their table groups to create safety tip posters for different areas of the school including: the classroom, hallway, bus, gym, lunchroom, and playground.

We've been enjoying the beautiful weather the last few days by sneaking out for a little extra recess at the end of the day!
