Dr. Seuss & Missing Addends

This week did an author's study of Dr. Seuss.  Here's the class with their Cat in the Hat hats and whiskers!

We started the week off reading The Cat in the Hat.

Students then brainstormed ideas of what they would like to do if the Cat in the Hat came to their houses.

Afterwards they shared their ideas with their classmates.

Next we created lists of the top three things they would do with the Cat in the Hat.  Students also followed step by step directions to draw their own Cat in the Hat.

We also read Green Eggs and Ham.

Students then wrote their own ideas of where they would eat green eggs and ham.

On Friday students read Dr. Seuss books with a partner.

We then graphed our favorite Dr. Seuss books and analyzed the data.

In math this past week we circled back around to addition.  On Monday students used pipe cleaners and beads to create different addition combinations of numbers 3-20.

On Tuesday we solved math mysteries by using a 10 large ten frame.

On Wednesday students worked independently to solve 10 frame missing addend problems.  They used dobbers to select the correct answers to 10 different problems.
